Christmas

Sam's first Christmas was so much fun! Andy's parents and brother came over Christmas Eve. We went to a super crowded mass that evening, but were able to come back to spend the rest of the evening and next day at the house.

We got to Skype Andy's sister, brother-in-law, and our niece and nephews who live in Germany (we have only spoken to them a couple of times since they moved over there!). It was so good to see them!

My parents and brother were able to come down the weekend after Christmas (although a short trip) to spend some time together.

My mom stayed a few extra days and it was so fun getting to spend that time with her (I miss having them so close!).

Sam loved Christmas. He actually did a pretty good job unwrapping the presents (although - it was mostly to eat the paper :) ), and has actually enjoyed all the presents and books he received.  He also loved getting all the attention from everyone :).

Teeth

A couple of weeks before Christmas - Sam's bottom gums starting swelling up...and a couple days after Christmas...2 teeth emerged!  The transition feeding him with two teeth wasn't hard at all (thank goodness!)  - but definitely have to be careful when you let him put your fingers in his mouth - OUCH.

Also, Andy and I have realized that we can no longer blame all teeth marks on different toys / objects in the house on Ollie.....Sam likes to chew on everything. If he can get his hand around it, it will likely end up in his mouth :).

Oh Sleep, I miss you....

Later - I will have to completely flood this blog with pictures - but because I don't have my camera handy, it will have to wait (sorry!).

So...after Thanksgiving, the height of the acid-reflux hit.  We starting putting rice cereal in his bottles (he gained a lot of weight after that first week (the double-chin emerged :)  - which was good, because he was a on the smaller side before that). However, due to the new sleeping arrangements....he stopped sleeping through the night.  He was waking up 2-3 times a night. Thankfully, this was at a slower time at work (and when I had more time off) - so it wasn't as hard on me as it could have been.  2 months later, and we are still trying to get back on a schedule where he consistently sleeps through the night (say some prayers!).

Thanksgiving 2014

For Thanksgiving this year, Andy, Sam, and I went to St. Louis to introduce Mr. Sam to his great-grandparents, great-aunts/uncles and other extended family members. It was so much fun to get to introduce him to everyone. The trip, as always, was just not long enough and we can't wait to go back!

The day before we left for St. Louis, I took Sam back to the doctor for his congestion (I wanted to make sure he didn't have a cold/bronchitis.  Turns out, the doctor thinks he has acid-reflux, and suggested that he sleep in a reclined position (car seat or swing) each night to help gravity keep his food down.  Poor kid.  This switch of sleeping positions took place in St. Louis, and, consequently, Andy and I kissed our full night's rest goodbye as Sam began to wake up during the night during this trip (heading into the new year in January and we are still working on trying to get back to Sam sleeping all night).

One of my favorite memory (ies) from the week was how smitten my Nana was with Sam and loved holding him!  One morning, Andy and I were exhausted from being up all night tending to a fussy baby. Sam woke up, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed pretty early. Unfortunately, the rest of the house was still asleep. So we placed an extremely talkative Sam into his swing (that has a lap bar that has toys on it) to play while we tried to get a little bit extra shut-eye.  As I lay in bed, listening to my son chatter away, I (apparently), drifted off to sleep. I recall not hearing Sam talking anymore, thinking to myself, "Oh good, he fell back asleep" (which he had done on numerous occassions at our house). However, when I opened my eyes to check on him......the swing was EMPTY.  Apparently, my nana had woken up for the day, heard Sam talking away, and decided to SNEAK INTO OUR ROOM TO STEAL OUR BABY :) ha ha ha.  When I went to the kitchen, my nana and dad were playing with him on the kitchen table. It was really funny.

I'll have to post photos of our trip on here later :)
